Victory on the Path of Truth: July's Capricorn Full Moon in Uttara AshāḌhā.

VEDIC ASTROLOGY

JULY 2024 | FULL MOON IN CAPRICORN | VEDIC ASTROLOGY INSIGHTS

GURU PŪRNĪMĀ

On July 21st, a deeply auspicious Full Moon celebrated by Hindus as Guru Pūrnīmā, graces the sky at 11:17 AM, in the Saturn-ruled sign of Capricorn, within Uttara Ashāḍhā nakshatra.

Uttara Ashāḍhā, situated at the end of Sagittarius—the natural ninth house of dharma—marks the culmination of spiritual wisdom and the start of Capricorn’s diligent energy. The Moon’s position here invites us to reflect on the lessons imparted by our spiritual teachers, our personal growth journeys, and the karma illuminated during this time. Under the blessings of your Gurus, it is a period to share your wisdom!

The Moon in Capricorn highlights that a strong foundation of discipline, effort, and grounding in one’s core values, balanced with self-nurturance and care for the welfare of others, brings long-term rewards. Opposite the Full Moon, Sun and Venus in Cancer emphasises this nurturing and caring focus, particularly towards our personal relationships, along with trust in our intuitive voice and the messages of our innate sensitivity.

Saturn’s continued retrograde motion in Aquarius during this moon cycle underlines revisiting and reevaluating long-term goals and community-oriented projects. This period calls for strategy, structure, and containment of our ideas, emotions, creative energies, and spiritual lessons. In other words, it’s time to get real—take actions that solidify your foundation and help you build towards success.

The Capricorn-Cancer axis invites us to harmonise our inner and outer worlds for greater fulfilment. Capricorn Moon energy may feel uncomfortable due to Saturn’s authoritarian influence, but the Cancer Sun shines a light to remind us that self-care and devotion to our emotional needs are equally important in carrying out our duties and ambitions.

Where can we practice self-forgiveness? What is it time to release? This Guru Pūrnīmā brightens and blesses the path forward!

UTTARA ASHĀḌHĀ NAKSHATRA

Known as the “Invincible Star,” Uttara Ashāḍhā is ruled by the Sun and embodies the victory that comes through unyielding effort and commitment. The ten Vishwadevas are the deities that govern this powerful nakshatra. They represent the universal principles and virtues that guide us to align our actions with higher ethical standards and collective welfare, offering support to our inner and outer environments.

This Full Moon represents a pivotal moment for grounding our ambitions and manifesting our long-term goals with determination.

The symbol of this star space is the tusk of an elephant, linking it with Lord Ganesha, who protects our boundaries and removes obstacles from our path. The tusk also symbolises fighting battles, leadership qualities, perseverance, and inner strength, as exemplified by the story of Lord Ganesha breaking off his tusk to use as a pen to write the epic Mahābhārata, which was dictated to him by the sage, Ved Vyasa. This collaboration between two great minds, reflecting intellect and divine wisdom, teaches us that the blessings of Ganesha and the Guru are essential for the successful completion of challenging undertakings. (July 21st also marks the birth anniversary of the revered sage, Ved Vyasa.)

FULL MOON INTENTION

Reflect on your journey, celebrate your achievements, and pinpoint areas for improvement. Visualise your goals coming to fruition and set clear, actionable intentions for the future.

Remember and honour the Gurus, teachers, and guides who have contributed to your growth and transformation. Uphold humility and devotion, recognising that these qualities are key to reaching new heights in spiritual knowledge and practice. (As my Kung Fu teacher used to say:I know nothing!”)

JOURNAL THIS:

What long-term goals am I most committed to achieving?

Where in my life could I benefit from more structure and discipline?

How can I offer myself more empathy, care, and compassion as I work towards my ultimate vision?

Rise Up, Warrior.
